  • Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) is a cross-disciplinary area concerned with protecting the safety, health and welfare of people engaged in work or employment.
  • As a secondary effect, OSH may also protect co-workers, family members, employers, customers, suppliers, nearby communities, and other members of the public who are impacted by the workplace environment.
  • They analyze workplaces and design initiatives to control, eliminate, and prevent disease caused by chemical, physical, radiological, or biological agents.
  • develop safer and healthier ways of working
  • inspect and test machinery and equipment, such as lifting devices, machine shields and scaffolding, to make sure they meet safety regulations
  • make sure that personal protective equipment, such as dust masks, safety glasses, footwear and safety helmets, is being used in workplaces according to regulations
  • In addition, they may inspect workplaces to investigate whether they are in compliance with state and federal laws or employer policies and conduct analyses on the effectiveness of safety and health programs.
