Painting

• Artists create works that communicate an impression or an idea through painting, drawing, printmaking, carving, sculpting, photography, film-making, music, acting and dancing.
• Painting is used as a mode of representing, documenting and expressing all the varied intents and subjects that are as numerous as there are practitioners of the craft.
• Paintings can be naturalistic and representational (as in a still life or landscape painting), photographic, abstract, be loaded with narrative content, symbolism, emotion or be political in nature.
• Artists may specialise in a number of areas
• Fine/Visual Arts will conceive and develop ideas for paintings, drawings or designs. They then select a subject, a surface and a medium such as oil, watercolour, pencil, pastel, acrylic or ink. They will then mix or apply colours to the surface using appropriate techniques and taking into account the relationships of line, colour, design and form. They may produce designs or illustrations for publications, or sell their work.
• Cartoonist will conceive and develop ideas for cartoons, using illustrations and words, prepare rough or finished drawings. They will then submit designs to editors for approval and supervise final layout and suggest improvements
• Printmaker will etch designs onto metal plates using acid to produce prints. They will then prepare the printmaking and ink surfaces, and transfer the image to print material. They then prepare the screens for screen printing and execute the lithographs or create digital designs.
