Graphic design is the process of communicating visually using text and images to present information.
Graphic design practice embraces a range of cognitive skills, aesthetics and crafts, including typography, visual arts and page layout. · They develop the images used in a variety of creative projects, including presentations, brochures, advertisements, catalogues, direct mail, corporate identity and packaging.
They also responsible for the design, layout and formatting of materials.
Strong design abilities and proficiency in software applications such as Quark, Illustrator and Photoshop is required.
They may also work in publishing, developing the layout and design of books, magazines, and newspapers. Some create graphics for television. Others develop designs for Internet Web pages, interactive media, and multimedia projects.
They may be required to talk to clients to get a clear understanding of their visual communication requirements and develop design 'roughs' (sketches) and prepare comprehensive layouts of the design.
They must supervise all design production stages including arranging and supervising printing.
