A systems accountant analyses financial information needs for organisations by reviewing existing systems and working out the best way to meet those needs with the design of new systems.
Develops and supervises the implementation of complex accounting and financial computer systems.
Prepares, establishes and maintains the design control, operation, and enhancement of manual and computerized systems and subsidiary accounting records established for budget/general ledger control, contracts/accounts payable, revenue/utilities billing, bank/investments, payroll, and project cost accounting/fixed asset accounting.
Provides advice and assistance on the development and use of computer-produced accounting and financial records.
Prepares proposals and plans for the installation of new or revised procedures and operations
Prepares written instructions for system use and analyses departmental fiscal operations to determine specific financial information required for efficient operations
Suggests methods and procedures for effective application of data processing techniques;
Directs the analysis and evaluation of the need for systems modification and the development of effective solutions for reporting, enhancements and testing; prepares proposals and plans for the installation of new or revised procedures and monitors implementation; recommends sub-systems modifications to assure systems compatibility;
Compiles and prepares financial statements, general and subsidiary ledgers and supporting schedules; maintains expenditure and budgetary control accounts; develops fiscal reporting systems that are reflective of complex operational costs and provides accurate, timely cost and management information for use in management and administration;
Analyses and evaluates the need for system modification and develops effective solutions to current and anticipated difficulties.
