1. What was your first job?
Trainee Chef and Hospitality Management at the Menzies Hotel.
2. What did you want to be when you grew up?
My interests changed constantly throughout my teen years, from Pilot to Chef, Manager, Actor Director and then Radio Announcer. It was my creative bent that led me into Arts & Entertainment.
3. What does your job involve now?
As well as presenting Late Nights on Vega, I’m with the Sales-Promotions Departments and manage all our Street Events. This involves a high degree of time management as I am effectively working with 3 departments - Sales, Promotions and Programming.
In my role as Vega Browser, a unique sales tool, I liaise with clients and discuss the best way to highlight their product or event. I do the creative writing, voicing and producing of all of my Browser pieces, hence, I develop strong working relationships with Vega’s clients.
4. Are you thinking of trying your hand in anything else?
No, not outside of Radio anyway. I have a passion for Radio and would like to continue to explore further avenues within this industry.
5. What is the biggest challenge you face at work?
Prioritising. Being involved with so many departments I can often be pulled from pillar to post so I have to constantly assess which tasks at hand need to be addressed in the most timely manner. Also, keeping on top of what's of most importance to our listeners, whether it be a hot news story, or popular new TV show, so I can reflect it on my Show.
6. What is the best part of your job?
Having the freedom to be creative.
7. What is your advice for people starting out in your industry?
The first step in Radio always seems to be the biggest and hardest to take. Tackle everything with a fire in your belly. Once you're in, try and understand as many facets of the business as possible.
It's what's worked for me as I have a very good working knowledge of Programming, Promotions and understand that without a successful Sales team none of us would be in this great industry.
8. What makes you happy?
This is a double-barreled answer considering my different positions at Vega 95.3fm. When a listener compliments me on something they heard on the show or even quotes it! Also, when someone acknowledges the contribution I've made to the team. |
